Exploring, Creating, and Learning at BYC Kids!

At BYC Kids, every day is an adventure! Our Reggio Emilia-inspired programs are built around child-led learning, creativity, and exploration. We believe that children learn best through hands-on experiences, open-ended play, and collaboration, and we make sure every moment is filled with joy and discovery. Whether your child is part of our preschool, pre-K, after-school enrichment, or summer camp in Ballard, they’ll have an incredible time exploring new ideas, making friends, and building confidence.

Our Programs:

Art & Photography

Creativity is at the heart of everything we do. Our art program isn’t just about making beautiful things—it’s about learning art history, understanding composition, and experimenting with different techniques. Kids paint, draw, sculpt, and even take part in photography lessons, where they explore focal points, repetition, and storytelling through images. It’s amazing to see how kids express themselves when given the tools and freedom to create!

Theater

Our theater program is completely kid-driven—the children help write, cast, and direct their own plays! They work together to build sets, design costumes, and bring their stories to life. Whether they’re on stage acting or behind the scenes running the show, they develop confidence, teamwork, and storytelling skills. The energy, laughter, and creativity that fill the space during rehearsals are simply magical!

Yoga & Movement

Movement is an important part of a child’s development, and we incorporate yoga, dance, and physical play into our daily routines. Our preschool and pre-K teacher, Nikole, brings a calming energy to the classroom, guiding kids through breathing exercises, balance challenges, and mindful movement. Yoga helps children develop body awareness, emotional regulation, and relaxation techniques they can use for life.

Gardening & Cooking

At BYC Kids, we don’t just learn about nature—we experience it firsthand! The kids help tend to our garden, where we grow fruits, vegetables, and herbs. They’ve loved making kale chips from our own garden-grown kale, and baking is always a hit! Cooking teaches children math, science, patience, and life skills while giving them a sense of accomplishment.

Outdoor Exploration

We believe learning should extend beyond the classroom. That’s why we spend so much time outside, exploring community parks, beaches, and nature trails. Whether we’re digging in the sand, searching for crabs, or learning about tide pools, kids engage with the world in a meaningful way. Outdoor play encourages problem-solving, curiosity, and a deep appreciation for the natural world.

STEM & Hands-On Learning

We love sparking curiosity through science experiments, building challenges, and hands-on problem-solving. Whether we're testing what objects float and sink, building bridges from craft sticks, or making baking soda volcanoes, our kids learn through doing. These projects help develop critical thinking, patience, and teamwork—all while having a blast!

Anna Nodolf

I’m Anna. A family girl; love hangin with mine and love photographing yours.

Based out of Seattle, I’ve been photographing people in love for over 8 years.

When I’m not behind the camera, you might find me drinking matcha or strolling the farmers market with my husband and daughter - we call her The Peej. We, quite honestly, can’t get enough of each other.

People say I’ve never met a stranger - I find that becoming fast friends helps clients feel comfortable being photographed, makes them more relaxed and settle into completely being themselves. This results in more authentic, real life photos. Which is totes my jam.
