Spotlight on BYC Kids Theater: Now Performing Alice in Wonderland!

A group of kids create a play for an art enrichment theater program in Ballard Seattle - BYC Kids

At BYC Kids, our theater program is more than just putting on a play—it’s about creativity, teamwork, and confidence-building! Each year, our students take center stage in a production they help bring to life from start to finish. From brainstorming ideas and writing the script to casting roles, designing sets, and directing scenes, the kids are at the heart of every performance.

A Look Back at Past Productions

In 2023, we took the stage with Barbie, a fun and colorful production filled with empowering messages and plenty of laughs. The year before that, we rocked out with our very own version of Grease, complete with singing, dancing, and vintage flair. Each show has been a labor of love, showcasing our students’ creativity, talent, and dedication.

Now Presenting: Alice in Wonderland!

For our 2025 production, we’re diving into the whimsical and wacky world of Alice in Wonderland! But this isn’t just a traditional retelling—our students are reimagining the story in their own way, adding their own twists and surprises to the classic tale.

From the very beginning, the kids have been collaborating to shape the production, deciding which characters to highlight, what Wonderland should look like, and even creating original dialogue and scenes. Some have chosen to modernize characters, while others are bringing in new elements and humor to make the play feel fresh and unique.

The students also take charge of set and costume design, brainstorming creative ways to bring Wonderland to life. Whether it’s crafting giant mushrooms, designing elaborate tea party props, or figuring out how to make a shrinking Alice work on stage, they are problem-solving and working together to make the magic happen.

Even behind the scenes, our young directors and stage managers are learning leadership skills by guiding rehearsals, offering creative input, and helping their fellow performers feel confident on stage. Everyone plays a vital role in shaping the final production, making this truly their own version of Alice in Wonderland.

Our theater program is an amazing opportunity for kids to grow in confidence, express themselves, and work as a team. We can’t wait to see this year’s production come to life—and we’d love for you to come cheer them on when the curtain rises!

Stay tuned for performance details, and get ready to fall down the rabbit hole with us!

Anna Nodolf

I’m Anna. A family girl; love hangin with mine and love photographing yours.

Based out of Seattle, I’ve been photographing people in love for over 8 years.

When I’m not behind the camera, you might find me drinking matcha or strolling the farmers market with my husband and daughter - we call her The Peej. We, quite honestly, can’t get enough of each other.

People say I’ve never met a stranger - I find that becoming fast friends helps clients feel comfortable being photographed, makes them more relaxed and settle into completely being themselves. This results in more authentic, real life photos. Which is totes my jam.
